The USCG has updated their standard list of personal protective equipment. The Basic PPE lists the minimum outfit of PPE for a boat crewmember in warmer climates. The Cold Weather Outfit lists supplemental items for cold weather areas. Approximate prices follow each item. The cost is spread over a three year span (in other words - the gear is expected to last for three years)

A new dewatering pump is being developed - Hale and Scott have prototype models - by Jan 1999 it should be available for purchase.

The owner of a Florida company faces 40 years in jail for selling bogus flight-critical replacement parts to the USCG for use on the Dauphine rescue choppers - no other companies or agencies received bogus parts from this company.

The USCG Cutter fleet normally operates on a set of frequencies known as the Systems Coordination Net (SCN). However, more and more often, the cutters are appearing on tactical frequencies assigned to the DEA, US Customs Service, and to USCG aircraft. The following list is not all-inclusive and should be used only as a guideline for copying USCG Cutters.

�������� When operating on these nets, the USCG Cutters will use either their international callsign, the tactical callsign "SHARK##" (where ## equals the last two of the cutter's number), or the cutter's name. In addition, the cutter may use a tactical callsign in the form of a L#L combination. NOTE: USCG Cutters assigned to inland waterways (WLIC, WLI, WLR, WYTL) are not assigned international callsigns.
