Federal State, consists of seven Emirates. Formerly known as the Trucial States (The Brits involved themselves in a local dispute and because of the Truce the place was renamed.) Oil based economy. Population +/- 1.7 mil. (Approximately 80% are expatriate.) Summers are extremely hot and humid. Not unknown to go above 50�C with 90% humidity.

Ambulances - American standard Horton ambulances. ( 40+ vehicles purchased over past two years. Equipped by Ferno Washington) Staffed by Philipino nurses, Omani drivers. No driver training given, no CME's for nurses. Ambulances are only allowed to go through red traffic light when resus is in progress.

Fire Department

No in service training. The latest and best equipment. (Mix of American, British, French and Russian). Mostly Omani and Yemeni staff.

Abu Dhabi Fire Department

Main Fire Station, Abu Dhabi = 4 Rescue Units, 2 TL's, 2 Foam Tenders, 4 Water Bunkers, 2 Ladder Trucks, plus numerous other "small incident" SUV's. These are mainly for small incidents e.g. smoke from kitchen, oil on road after minor accident etc.

4 Satellite Stations, each with a rescue unit, TL and a general fire tender. The one next to the Power Station has an extra foam tender.

Everything is painted in dayglow yellow.

Apparently the new Civil Defence web site will be coming up in one year (?Winter 2001/2002).
