Chicago IL - street corner box is 1E - smoke check is ?2E + 1L - still alarm is 2E + 2L + 1 Sqd - box alarm is 4E + 2L - two eleven alarm is 4 more E + 2 more L

Chicago IL - A working still is a still where the chief or 1st company on the scene calls in "We've got a fire". This usually indicates a leadout (pulling a hose vs sqirting a fire extinguisher). A cold box (no telephone call) response is 4 engines, 2 trucks and 1 battalion chief. A still and box is technically a still followed by a box. The following box may be sounded by the fire alarm office for special risks. A non voice alarm from a hospital is a cold box. (Usually false.) A non voice alarm from the Civic Center is a still and box. A voice (telephone alarm) from a hospital is a still and box. (Assume "We've got a fire".) Confused? Is the school in session? Alarm from a theater? Is the alarm from: John Hancock? Water Tower Place? Sears Tower? Aon (ex-Amoco, ex-Standard Oil) building? 1st National Bank Building? IBM Building? maybe others over 700ft by now? All get a still and box. A regular high rise gets a working still plus a 2nd batalion chief. They used to get a 3rd engine. Chig Housing Authority high rise apartment buildings - I don't know. ----- Original Message ----- To: Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2001 8:27 AM Subject: Re: [Carma] Unofficial Chicago Fire Dept. Webpage On Wed, 24 Jan 2001 - PB wrote - Probably old news to you "fire fans", but I stumbled across this tonight: << http://www.emergency.com/cfdpage.htm >> I was going to ask what a pin-in response was, now I know (Engine - Truck - Buggy - Squad - Ambulance). Are these assignments still accurate (page is from 1995). Also, the page describes Still, Working Still (which I don't think I've ever heard), Still And Box, etc, but no straight Box Alarm.
