Ambulances donated to highway users

In a ceremony at the Police Headquarters, two ambulances were donated to the State Highway Police by Tata Engineering's Senior Deputy General Manager (commercial vehicle-sales), U K Goel to the Additional Director General of Police (Traffic), M G Narawane.

The ambulances will facilitate rescue and first aid operations on the Mumbai-Pune Express highway. It will be managed by the Highway Users Club, run by Suman Motels Ltd., in coordination with the Highway Police Department. S C Malhotra, Director General of Police and S S Puri, Additional Director General of Police (law and order) inaugurated the ambulance. Narwane said, "Considering the number of accidents on our highways, government agencies including the police, require the support of the companies like Tata Engineering and Highway Users Club to help the police and give assistance to people in need".

The Mumbai-Pune highway is an accident prone stretch, due to the high volume of traffic and inadequate first aid facilities. The ambulance donated by Tata Engineering will be stationed at the Traffic Aid Post at accident-prone zones on the highway and would be available round the clock to attend to the accidents and emergencies. The ambulance will be manned by the Highway Users Club, a subsidiary company of Suman Motels Ltd., which provides ambulance services for carrying accident victims to the nearest primary health care centre or the district hospitals.
