Bangkok Fire Brigade - Thailand
All members of the Royal Thai Police Fire Brigade
are members of the police department. 31 fulltime
stations are used in addition to 45 satellite
stations which are manned by 1 firefighter with 1
pickup truck. Multiple aerial ladder/platform units
are used and the FD has two 60 meter aerial ladders
even though narrow streets and mushy pavements (the
city was built on a swamp) make their use
problematic. There are 360 sets of breathing
apparatus which are used by the 1000+ members of the
Bangkok Fire Service.
Anyone considering a visit to Thailand can contact Robert Brenner at fire@fireengineer.com for assistance - also, you can see his website at www.fireengineer.com.

Hat Yoi, Thailand (the largest city in the South).

reported previous to the fire that the mats were not
stored properly.
April 1, 1998 - per Xinhua News Agency - 315
buildings in Bangkok are rated poor for fire safety.
22% of the buildings inspected by the Metro
Administration Office of Municipalities (of a total
of 1,450 buildings inspected) were listed as poor.
In 1997, 1,081 buildings were inspected - 133 were
good - 787 were fair - 89 were poor. To date in 1998,
432 buildings were inspected - 48 were good - 157
were fair - 226 were poor. Under ministerial
regulations, buildings built before 1992 are supposed
to have fire escapes, posted evac routes, mobile fire
extinguishers, fire alarms, exit signs and lights, as
well as lightning protection. No earthquake
