The Public Safety Dept has 73 fulltime (FT) sworn officers + 16 FT civilians + 8 FT fire engineers based at 1 HQ plus 3 satelitte stations within the city limits - ambulance service is provided by the County EMS - there are also 28 part time employees who serve as reserve firefighters and reserve officers - all sworn officers perform fire and police duties

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey - all police officers are also trained as firefighters - Laguardia, Kennedy, and Newark Airports have crash fire rescue crews staffed by police officer/firefighters - the PANY has 7,495 positions which is down 20% since 1995 - the Port Authority PD has 1200 sworn staff - 632 are CPR certified - 170 are defib certified - have 40 EMTs and 30 First Responders - the PD is 71 years old and is the 26th largest law enforcement agency in the USA - on 4/16/99, 53 recruits graduated from the 22 week long PANY Police Academy (info taken from the news releases at the PANY website on 9/3/99)
