Utah Public Safety
Police service in Utah is provided by the Utah Highway Patrol + County Sheriff Departments + City Police Departments. Fire service is provided by City FDs + Fire Districts + 1 or 2 County FDs + local FDs. Ambulance service is provided by local ambulance services. 911 dispatch service is usually provided at the county level by a countywide 911 dispatch center.
Mormons are the majority of the residents in Utah. There is only 1 major metropolitan area in Utah - Salt Lake City. The rest of the state is very rural. There are large mountain chains and huge flat areas of desert/prairie/salt flats.

January 2000 Update on County FD
On July 1, 1999 - began full time fire service in Copperton
August 1, 1999 - began serving Riverton City
October 1, 1999 - opened new training academy at 4000 South 8000 West - the first recruit camp of 21 fireifghters will last 3 months
December 1999 - will open new station in Taylorsville to be staffed by 6 captains + 6 engineers + 3 firefighters (?3 platoon system)
Fall 2001 - will open new station at Solitude Ski Resort staffed by 6 captains + 6 engineers + 3 firefighters
