Note - L = turntable ladder

That list of stations was taken from a Scanner website if I remember correctly. Ladders are listed at 22 stations. (In May 2000 - London is only operating 16 Ladders).

----------

August 2000 - from uk.community.firefighting - each ladder operates with either 1 or 2 certified ladder operators (?3 week course)

-----------------------------------------------

Most stations have a pump, and a pump escape. About 10% of the stations have a turntable ladder, hydraulic platform, tower ladder, or rescue unit. There is 1 fireboat on the Thames River. Staffing is 5 people per each pump, pump escape, and rescue unit. Staffing on aerial units is 2 people.

-----------------------------------------------

Info from a October 1999 post to the uk.community.firefighting news group. In 1975, LFB had 28 TL (turntable ladders) on the run (in operation). Presently, LFB has 6 ALP + 5 HP (Hydraulic Platforms/Snorkels) + 5 TL on the run. [Could this be Liverpool Fire Brigade instead of London Fire Brigade? (not likely).]

-----------------------------------------------

May 5, 1999 - from the London Fire Brigade website - saving $1.6 million per year by hiring fewer cooks - in 1995, the Brigade was reorganized into East, West, and South Commands - in 1998, efforts are underway to reduce 1 engine at the Hornchurch, Addington, Hillingdon, Finchley, and Heston stations - 1 additional pump is required at Heathrow Airport because the 2nd due pump cannot reach the terminals in under 5 minutes - approximately 120 civilians and 1 firefighter die per year.

A List of London Fire Brigade Stations with Assigned Units - ?1999

-----------------------------------------------

22 Nov 00 - info taken from the London Fire Brigade Website

We protect the people and property, of the 32 London boroughs and the Corporation of London, from fire and other hazards, covering an area of 1,587 kilometres (620 square miles). We respond to thousands of calls a year. In 1998/1999 we responded to 160,639 calls, 95% within three seconds. We attended 71,938 false alarms in 1998/1999, of which 13,000 were hoax calls. We attend thousands of fires a year. In 1998/1999 we attended 41,103 fires. We also attend special services, such as road accidents or people stuck in lifts. In 1998/1999 we attended 47,598 special services.

How We Do It

We have 112 fire stations and one river station which are staffed every day of the year. The stations are grouped together geographically into area commands, with each command headed by an Assistant Chief Fire Officer.

We respond to thousands of calls each year. All emergency calls are received at the high tech control roomin the Command and Mobilising Centre at our headquarters in Lambeth. We answer about 95% of calls within three seconds, and all emergencies are responded to immediately however great or small.

We employ 7,200 staff. Staff based in area offices, or at our headquarters, deal with much of fire safety work, provide support services, and emergency planning. Of the 7,200 staff, 5,900 are operational firefighters. To provide round-the-clock cover, we operate a four-watch system at stations- red, white, blue and green watches.

The London Fire Brigade is split into three commands. A list of fire stations and boroughs for each command is shown below:
