May 29, 1999 - Controversey - Calls from City Council for removal of Fire Chief - police officer was shot and killed - news media beat ambulance to scene - investigation was done - ambulance took 16 minutes to arrive because they had ?been sent to a wrong location by a dispatcher who had notified his superiors previously that he had hearing problems.
?June 11, 1999 - Fire Chief suspended for one week - first dispatcher with 2 hearing aids got call from PD with street address and cross street - dispatcher missed the cross street - time was 0911AM - only the address was passed to ambo dispatcher - 2nd call from PD (with street address and motel name) 8 minutes later again was passed to the ambo dispatcher by a second senior dispatcher - again no one checked database to verify correct address for named motel - police dispatcher called the fire dispatch center for a 3rd time at 0922 - error discovered - L51 sent at 0926 and arrived at ?0929 - ambo arrived ?2 minutes after L51 - Houston newspaper had article - www.firehouse.com had it for one day - www.firehouse.com now (6/15/99) now has it in the offsite archive via a link to www.apbonline.com - why did it take 4 minutes to dispatch L51 after error discovered? - why doesnt HFD require the dispatch of a call to include address and cross street and place name?
Sept 2002 - 2 EMTs checked a baby - said he was OK - then the baby died at a hospital after the EMTs left
