North Carolina Public Safety
Most dispatching in NC is done at the county level. Most police work is done by the NC Highway Patrol, County Sheriff's Offices, and City PDs. Fire protection is done by independant volunteer FDs and paid city FDs. Ambulance service is usually provided by a (paid) County Ambulance / EMS Service. County Rescue Squads are volunteer organizations that do water rescue, closed space rescues, and auto extrication. Wildfire protection is provided by the State Department of Forestry, and the National Forests. The State Highway Patrol provides police service to state roads and highways. Helicopter ambulances are provided by hospitals in Raleigh, Charlotte, Asheville, ?Durham, and ???.
