Saint Louis County Public Safety

From Fire-L@topica.com in May 2000

Just FYI - STLFD ran 15 1987 Pierce Arrow 50' Rear Mount Quints, 15 1987 Kovatch/LTI 75' Rear Mount Quints, 3 1988 Spartan Monarch/LTI 105' Rear Mount Aerial Ladders (straight stick), 1 1996 E-One 105' Rear Mount Tower Ladder (platform), and 2 Spartan/Saulsbury Heavy Rescue Squads out of 30 engine houses. The Pierce and Kovatch Quints are being replaced at this time with 30 2000 Spartan/Smeal 75' Rear Mount Quints. I understand that the straight stick ladders will be replaced with 2 straight sticks and 1 platform in the near future w/ the replacement of the rescue sqauds forthcoming. I am unsure of who will get the contract for the aerials or the squads at this time. So eventually, the breakdown will be 30 Smeal 75' Quints, 2 straight stick ladders, 2 platform ladders, and 2 heavy rescue squads.

Also: Still Alarms - 3 Quints, 1 Chief 1st Alarms (or Box) - 4 quints, 1 H&L, 2 Chiefs, 1 Rescue 2nd Alarm - + 3 quints, 1 H&L, 1 Chief 3rd Alarm - + 3 quints, 1 H&L, 1 Chief, 1 Rescue 4th Alarm - + 3 quints, 1 H&L 5th+ Alarm - + 3 quints (Clayton FD's ladder often responds on STLFD 5th alarms). Note: Even though STLFD is one of the pioneers of the "Quint Concept", Fire alarm still dispatches them as "Pumper"....go figure. (All of this is from memory and subject to minor error!)
