Portland Maine and its suburbs are located within Cumberland County. Each town and city in the County operates its own FD. Ambulance service is usually provided by the local FD. Police service is usually provided by a municipal PD. If there is no local PD, then the Cumberland County Sheriff Department or the Maine State Police provide police services. Almost every municipality operates its own dispatch center. Most radio channels are now repeaterized.
