Police service is provided in Iowa by the Iowa Highway Patrol + County Sheriffs Departments + City Police Departments. Fire service is provided by local fire departments. Ambulance service is provided by private ambulances and local volunteer ambulance squads. 911 Dispatch is usually handled by the Sheriff Department. Radio systems are set up on a county basis - typically all police units in 1 county will share 1 channel, all fire units in 1 county will share 1 channel, etc.
