San Jose

San Jose FD turned off the mobile data stat-alert system that sent the data traffic over the primary dispatch channel about 3 years ago - after enduring too much of that nonsense. Should never have been installed that way. Couldn't hear half the vocal traffic due to those data bursts. We now have a new channel that we use strictly for data.

The Tier 1-2-3-etc system is for vegetation fires in the city. It's a system unique to our department and occasionally changes in terms of configuration. Right now you'll get the following response:

Tier 1: (inclusive of any single engine that may have started on a VEG response): 1 Engine, 2 Wildland Engine Companies (Engine/Patrol combo), 1 BC

Tier 2: 2 Wildland Engine companies, 1 Engine-Tender Company, 1 BC

Tier 3: 1 Wildland Engine company, 1 Engine Tender Company, 1 BC

Tier 4: 1 Engine, 2 Reserve Patrol Groups (2 Patrols per group)

Tier 5: 2 Reserve Water Tenders (and most likely mutual aid engines) - March 1999 info
