California OLIVENHAIN: A motorcyclist, Mark Eisenhower (48), was killed after he crashed into a sport utility vehicle, flew off his bike, landed in the roadway and was run over by a school bus, California Highway Patrol officers said. The school bus driver (51) of Carlsbad, had been directly behind the motorcycle and could not avoid rolling over the rider, authorities said. The bus driver and the 13 middle school students on board the San Dieguito Union High School District bus were not injured. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 05/15/2002
ConnecticutWATERBURY: Returning from a church trip to Niagara Falls, with 44 adults and children of three Waterbury church groups on board, a bus driver with 30 years experience apparently fell asleep at the wheel of his bus speeding at 73 mph and crashed the Coach USA tour bus about 16 miles southeast of Rochester, New York. Killed were Maikel Mota (29) and Enerolisa Polanca (29), the parents of 18-month-old Lixzy Mota also on board but survived; Alexis Blondet (16) and Jasmine Santiago (15), both students at Waterbury's Kennedy High School; and Ruth Restiuyo (30). 23 others were injured. The five dead had been seated in the middle of the bus, and all were ejected or partly ejected during the crash. State police say the driver admitted he spent the entire weekend gambling at a casino and got 3 1/2 hours of sleep in the two days before the crash. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 06/23/2002

GeorgiaHarper-Archer High School, ATLANTA: On the last day of school Patken Lollis (15) was trying to flee from a fight with another student when he jumped from the back door of the school bus he was riding and landed on his head. Indiana WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, VALPARAISO: First grader, Mary Lynn Ross (6), was killed while she was crossing the street after exiting her school bus when a motorcycle struck and killed her. The bus safety lights were flashing and its stop arm was extended. The unlicensed motorcyclist (36) failed to stop for the bus and was later charged with felony counts of reckless homicide and criminal recklessness and a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. Kansas Kansas School for the Deaf: Lory R. Kuschmider (52) was riding a tour bus carrying the Kansas School for the Deaf high school football team when it crashed, killing assistant coach Kuschmider and injuring several students and adults. There were 34 players, coaches and cheerleaders on board the bus, which went down the side of a grassy embankment, flipped once and landed on its top at the bottom of a ravine about 25 feet from the road. The roof was crushed down to just even with the top of the seats. The bus was chartered from Sunset Tours of Independence, Mo. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 10/27/2002
Louisiana BATON ROUGE: Tellis Green (13) was shot and killed by a 15-year-old boy while walking home from his bus stop with a friend. Police said that as the pair walked past another group of boys, a white car then pulled up and its front-seat passenger shot at the other boys - who had not been on Green's bus. MarylandANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY: Paula Lynn Edwards (34) a county school bus driver for 3 years and mother of three was strangled by the father of her three daughters. Anne Arundel County police charged Howard Alexander Jr. with first-degree murder. Police said Alexander told them where to find her body. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 09/15/2002
MassachusettsAurora D. Perez (79), a retired high school Spanish teacher, was headed south on Trotting Park Road at 10:45 a.m. when she drove onto Lower County Road and into the path of an eastbound Northside school bus carrying 38 schoolchildren from the Ezra Baker School and nine teachers and chaperones. The school bus struck Perez's gray Ford Taurus station wagon broadside, and both vehicles went through a split-rail fence and onto the lawn of a home. The teacher died at the scene. Minnesota ST. PAUL: Terry Bradley (4) was riding his bicycle on Thomas Avenue a few blocks from Jackson Elementary School at about 4 p.m. when he apparently ran into the side of a school bus carrying 50 Jackson students home. Minnesota ST. PAUL: Grandmother Arleen Gerard (71), Will Tenpas (3) died instantly, and brother Zane Tenpas (18-months) eventully died of injuries caused when a school bus apparently rearended the Ford Escort from behind, as the grandmother was was turning left accross the highway toward the boy's home. The impact of the crash propelled both vehicles into the path of an oncoming delivery truck. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 12/12/2002
Missouri SIKESTON: Kristen Harris (6) was told by some students that she was missing the bus and she ran after it as it pulled away. As the bus turned she caught up to the bus and at some point fell under the rear wheels crushing her, a preliminary investigation indicated. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 08/27/2002
New York AMHERST: The driver of a chartered school bus, Robert Zulawski (67) of Blasdell died after the bus veered off the westbound Youngmann Highway in Amherst and broke through a fence before wrapping around a tree. North Carolina CHATHAM COUNTY: Terrance Jahvon Howard (5) and his brother (10) ran into the 55 MPH roadway before the school bus had stopped and was struck by a S-10 pickup truck killing Jahvan and injuring his brother, according to reports. The school bus still had its amber caution lights on and had not yet activated the stop arm and red, flashing lights as it had approached the boys� bus stop. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 02/19/2002
North CarolinaREIDSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL, REIDSVILLE: Sarah Cox (14) was walking in the middle of the road to her school bus stop about 6:30 a.m when she was hit by a car. The driver of the car was not speeding and was not charged in the accident. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 10/11/2002
OklahomaMUSKOGEE: James Allen Goodreau (7), a Warner second-grader, died on the road in front of his home when his school bus pulled away after dropping off the boy and two of his siblings after school. The Highway Patrol's report stated that the Warner bus driver said he believed all the children were clear of the bus when he drove away that day. He looked in both side mirrors and saw no children, and also believed he saw three children walking away from the vehicle. But the boy was in front of the bus, where he couldn't be seen over the hood. The bus driver, unaware the bus had hit Goodreau, continued to drive his route until authorities caught up with him. PennsylvaniaBELLE VERNON AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT: Walter Price (72) died as a result of injuries he suffered when a substitute driver driving a BVA school bus failed to stop for a red traffic signal and cashed into his vehicle, according to press reports. Texas TERRELL: Four youths and the bus driver were killed and about 35 others injured when one of two Discovery Tours charter buses taking about 40 middle and high school students on each bus to a Louisiana church camp, slammed head-on into a concrete pillar off Interstate 20. Killed in the crash were Michelle Chaney (14), Michael Freeman (12), Lindsay Kimmons (16), and Amanda Maxwell (13). The charter bus driver, Ernest Sheldon Carter (51) also died. The driver was believed sleep-deprived and had trace amounts of cocaine and Valium in his body, attorneys for the families said. Texas NORTHEST HARRIS COUNTY: Abel Angel Garza (18), the driver of a Ford Expedition, tried to pass a school bus and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Suburban. Priscilla Garza (16), a passenger in the Expedition and Lisa Patterson Garms (34), the driver of the Chevrolet were both killed in the crash. Abel died later at the hospital. A third passenger (17) in the Expedition was injured. Injuries suffered by the occupants of three other vehicles struck by the Expedition were not serious. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 09/06/2002
TexasMISSOURI CITY: Amanda Nicole Jackson, an eighth-grader at Missouri City Middle School, was talking with friends on the afternoon school bus outside the school when she suddenly lost consciousness. She was rushed to Memorial Hermann Fort Bend Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed that an aneurysm in her aorta burst, causing blood to flood the area around the heart, compressing it and preventing it from beating. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 09/16/2002
TexasNEW BRAUNFELS: Investigators believe a distracted school bus driver is to blame for a crash that killed Kayla Klock (12), a sixth-grader at Mountain Valley Intermediate School, and injured her mother and sister when a school bus ran into the back of their van, crushing the van between the bus and another vehicle. The van had either stopped or slowed down because a school bus in front of it had stopped to pick up students. The bus was traveling at about 40 mph when it hit the van. The bus driver (42) was distracted by an incident near the back of the bus and had looked up briefly in his rear-view mirror. When he looked back at the road the van was right in front of him. TexasBLOCK HOUSE CREEK ELEMENTARY, LEANDER: Kindergartner Jacey Coffey died when her mother lost control of her Dodge Intrepid skidded on the wet pavement and collided with a Leander school bus carrying the driver, a monitor and a fourth-grader. WashingtonEDGEMONT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, EDGEWOOD: Mary Ianuzzi (13) was just across the street from her Edgewood school bus stop early morning when the driver (33 ) of a sport utility vehicle ran through a stop sign, collided with another SUV and then crashed into her. Three hours later, the eighth-grader - who is said loved science, soccer and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" - died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 09/16/2002
WashingtonMARYSVILLE-PILCHUCK HIGH SCHOOL, MARYSVILLE: Ariana Gallegos (15), a high school sophomore, was dressed in dark clothing when she began to cross Armar Road to her school bus stop on a dark and rainy Monday morning. She was crossing the road outside of a nearby crosswalk. A school bus driver saw her step into the street and walk toward the school bus stop on the other side of the road as a white car rounded a curve and struck the girl. She died the next day at a Seattle hospital. The driver (37) of the car was found and charged with a felony charge of hit-and-run with a death involved. It's a crime that carries a term of between 31 and 41 months in prison upon conviction. Prosecutors said that had the driver stopped, there is a good chance she would not have faced any criminal sanction. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 12/04/2002
West VirginiaDODDRIDGE COUNTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WEST UNION: Victoria Shultz (6), a first grader, died after being struck by a school bus. Investigators said the bus struck the child as she darted from behind a picket fence into the road. She was not struck by the bus that she was to catch, although she may have thought that it was her bus, police said. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 11/01/2002

CanadaWHITEMUD: Robert Arthur Stanley (75), a Golden Arrow school bus driver, was killed when one or more persons deliberately dropped a basketball-sized boulder off a Whitemud overpass striking the bus and the driver. He managed to pull over, park the westbound bus, and engage his hazard lights. Stanley was a Second World War veteran and avid shuffleboard player. He served as a sergeant in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was a regular at an Edmonton legion. NO MEMORY PAGES FOUND 06/02/2002
