My Mountains

I didn't have to go far to get to my mountains, since I lived right at the base of the Franklin Mountains *s*  El Paso is one of those cities that has mountains running through it....in fact, El Paso wraps right around them! Franklin Mountains State Park is home to mule deer, fox, cougar, and other small mammals. You'll also find Golden Eagles, hawks, owls, and bats (only at night *s*). The park is also the only spot in Texas where you can find the Southwestern barrel cactus.

The Franklins aren't the only mountains here though. If you head north toward Las Cruces, you'll be running next to the Organ Mountains. Off to our east are the Guadalupe Mountains. During the windy season (March-May) winds in Guadalupe Pass often approach 80 mph!
